About the game:

Hug Force is a top down shooter where your mission is to find a helipad so support can infiltrate enemy grounds and win the war (which war? Who knows?).

When encountering enemies, you have two choices to encounter enemies: either shoot them of hug them.

Shooting has various advantages: it is easier and when you kill an enemy by shooting them they give you money. You can use the money to purchase more upgrades for your characters. However, when you run out of ammo, you´ll have to go for the second option: Hugging

Your gun is refilled by love, so any hugging will give you more ammo. The second benefit of hugging is that every so often, a hug  might slightly heal you, so it can definitely be useful in a pinch!

Choose between your two options and fight (or hug) your way to victory!

NOTE: The game is perfectly playable in browser, but runs best when downloaded and some browsers dont support it.

About the Jam´s limitation

This game is a submission for Major Jam 2: Love. The limitation in this jam is that all assets must fit into a 128x128 pixel sheet. The main tool I used to accomplish this for Hug Force was through tilesets. For stuff such as cliffs, lakes, or even UI elements I had a normal tilemap and a  flipped tilemap. This way, I could flip the sprites I had pointing in one direction through code so they looked the other way.

Final note:

I really enjoyed my time making this, and if you end up liking the game and are interested to see more, I am planning to keep developing the game after the jam, so be on the lookout for that.

Hello! This was actually a pretty fun game. A few things that I'd like to point out maybe add a options menu to control audio settings a bit better. The enemy AI shotting seems a lil strong most of the time maybe tone down there aim. Lastly I was prompted with the tutorial again after seeing once already. I played your game and experienced this all on my YouTube channel linked here. May take me a few days to get it uploaded but it will be there! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXoSYqva_jP83Ah3YOZx8eQ?view_as=subscriber

Thanks a lot for your input! I’m really glad you had a good time with the game, and I’ll be sure to fix the issues you came across in a later build
